Come to the dark side. We have cookies.
I didn't believe in reincarnation in my last life, either.

For Windows 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Spies: A Cold War Daybook is a Windows calendar and screen saver that will tell you stories from the dark history of twentieth-century espionage. It displays a different story for each day of the year, from an internal database of 366 entries. In addition, it will allow you to browse through its stories — although doing so will undoubtedly spoil its surprises.

Spies: A Cold War Daybook can be configured both to appear on command — whenever you run it, or every morning when your computer boots up — and as a conventional screen saver, whenever your system has been idle for a predetermined period.

Unlike spy movies in which the hero always manages to get the secret microfilm, evade a few deranged killers from an unnamed Eastern European nation and make love to any number of women he hadn't met 24 hours earlier, the stories in Spies: A Cold War Daybook are true.

Warning: This software deals with real events which occurred during the cold war. Some of the descriptions of these events include material which is sexual, violent and politically incorrect. The real world is like this. If you feel that you might be offended by any of this, we sincerely urge you not to download Spies: A Cold War Daybook.

This software is available for electronic delivery and on CD-ROM.

Spies: A Cold War Daybook

Some days it's just not worth gnawing through the restraints.

  • Display the daybook as both stand-alone Windows application and a Windows screen saver.
  • Browse the database of cold war history.
  • An unlimited source of convincing, documentable excuses to knock off work — assuming your boss will agree that Igor Gouzenko's birthday is grounds for celebration.

Spies: A Cold War Daybook can be registered either as bookware or as conventional shareware. Should you be unfamiliar with the former, here's the rub.

The bookware registration fee for Spies: A Cold War Daybook is to buy and read Steven William Rimmer's novel Eye of the Dawn. Eye of the Dawn is available at selected bookshops, and directly through Alchemy Mindworks. A bookware registration of Spies: A Cold War Daybook will get you a fully functional copy of the software. Please note, however:

Alchemy Mindworks' user database does not keep track of book orders. As such, if you have cause to re-install a bookware copy of this software in the future — because you change computers, for example, or because you reformat your hard drive — you will need the book. We cannot provide replacement bookware codes for this application under any circumstances, even if you claim that the spirit of King Tut Ankh Amon borrowed the book and you have video of the event to prove it. Don't ask. Be sure to hang onto your copy of Eye of the Dawn, and all will be well.

Because in registering this application as bookware you're really just buying a book, you will not be e-mailed a registration code for Spies: A Cold War Daybook when we confirm your order. You'll need to wait for the book to arrive to register your software.

Registering this version of Spies: A Cold War Daybook as bookware will entitle you to download any additional releases and patches in the 2.0 series at no cost. The bookware version will not be upgradable to future major releases, should we substantially expand Spies: A Cold War Daybook one day. For practical purposes, this probably isn't something you need to be greatly concerned about.

Alternately — should you not wish to read the book — you can register Spies: A Cold War Daybook as conventional shareware for $24.99 (US) — plus applicable shipping if you'd like a copy sent to you on CD-ROM.

Should you lose your registration code for Spies: A Cold War Daybook at some time in the future, or need to reinstall it, you will be able to request a replacement code through the Lost Registration Code Robot at our web page. If King Tut shows up to swipe your books, he may deplete your library, but he won't affect your use of Spies: A Cold War Daybook.

You will receive a registration code for Spies: A Cold War Daybook when we confirm your order by e-mail, enabling you to register a downloaded copy of the application immediately.

Should we release a more powerful version of Spies: A Cold War Daybook in the future, you will be able to upgrade to it at no cost or at a reduced price. Note, however, that we do not have plans to do so as of this writing.
